About Us

History

The ‘Hey 1st Newspaper for tourists’ project was born in 2016, motivated by the desire to create a newspaper in the city of Porto dedicated exclusively to tourists, giving rise to HeyPorto.

This project, or rather this newspaper, was born on paper, prioritising the traditional way of communicating, reporting and telling stories, with the website and social media complementing the paper and not the other way around.

The many tourists who visit the city already arrive with access to a range of platforms and web pages. However, the fact that they find a newspaper designed and written for this audience has been a strong point for HeyPorto, which has allowed us to differentiate ourselves from the consumer and awaken a need and demand at our distribution points, which have been expanding.

Over time, we have been taking firm steps towards consolidating the brand and the project in the city of Porto, with the essential support of several prominent tourism partners, such as the Porto City Council, the Porto Tourism Association, the Porto Commercial Association, Casa da Musica, Palácio da Bolsa, Torre dos Clérigos, Alfândega do Porto, among others.

Building on this success, we were challenged to expand internationally, launching HeyValencia in Spain in partnership with other organisations. In Portugal, we also expanded our reach, launching three other local editions: HeyAlgarve, HeyBraga and HeyAmarante.

Now it is Coimbra’s turn to have its own edition, HeyCoimbra.
